Q: Can you tell us how the concept of Convenient Cocktail Co. came to be?
Devin: We both moved to Chattanooga with the intention of opening up a bar and really settling down. We both started working at No Hard Feelings, we had a mutual friend who kept telling us that we should meet. We also realized we lived down the street from each other, so we were neighbors and coworkers.
The first time Josh was over at my house he told me he was thinking about the idea of starting a dehydrated fruit garnish company. Over the next three days, I went on a bender of what this thing could be. That’s when I came up with the name Convenient Cocktail Co. and some sketches, then Josh’s graphic designer friend put it together into a cohesive image. That’s how it really started, and it’s been nine months since then.

Q: What garnishes are you guys currently offering?
Devin: The core line is lime, lemon, grapefruit, orange, and pineapple. We’re going to be releasing a new line soon where we use hibiscus to naturally dye fruits and then dry them.
Q: Can you share a cocktail recipe for folks at home to try with your garnishes?

.75 oz. Plantation O.F.T.D. Rum
.75 oz. fresh lime juice

The Chattanooga Zoo is moving forward with its African Expansion, a significant part of the Zoo’s Master Plan. The $3.9 million project will bring unique African animals to Chattanooga, helping to conserve various species.
With assistance from resident porcupines Tommy and Pookie Prickles, the Zoo recently broke ground on a brand new Cape of Africa exhibit. The habitat is for lesser-known African animals like Cape porcupines, servals, and warthogs. When it’s completed, visitors will be able to experience animal interactions, educational opportunities, and majestic views of the Zoo’s giraffes.
You don’t need a hard hat to help build the Cape of Africa exhibit. With the “That’s My Brick!” campaign, you can support the construction of the exhibit by donating a brick. Each personalized brick will be installed as part of the pathway to Africa.
Expected completion of this portion of the African Expansion is in 2024.

Earlier this week, we asked our readers what their Chattanooga happy places were. Think: places in town that make you feel calm or somewhere you have fond memories from.
We received some pretty wholesome responses. Here are some of our reader + follower suggestions for spots in Chattanooga that bring on all of the happy feels.
“Aside from home, the Bluff Trail + Enterprise South Nature Park.” — Colby W.
“A walk on McCoy Farm & Gardens.” — @noogahoneypot
“The Common House pool. Serenity at its finest, especially in the early morning before it gets too hot.” — Linda K.
“It has to be Chattanooga Riverpark off Amnicola. When I first moved here, I’d meet my daughter and two-year-old granddaughter there for a run/walk. Lots of great memories.” — @kemurph58
“Sculpture Fields. Enjoy weekend walks with my dog Olivia.” — @blackdogwildflours
So far during Drink Up Month, I’ve gotten to try out a lot of new beverages. One of my favorites I’ve had so far is the Cascara + Honey soda from New Wave Coffee. It’s a kind of tea made from the leftover fruit skins after the seed of a coffee berry is removed. Totally new to me, and absolutely delicious.
