A Cajun invasion hits Riverbend 2012

A Cajun invasion is hitting the Riverbend Festival, with a brand new stage area offering seven nights of Mardi Gras mood, food and music.

The new Meo Mio‘s Cajun Spirits stage will be inside a tent located under the Olgiati Bridge near the Marine Max Marina.

“This will now be the festival’s sixth stage. It will be a unique place featuring blues, jazz and zydeco music,” public relations director Amy Morrow said

Similar to the typical Riverbend stages, each night will feature a headlining regional act with a local opener.

Morrow said bands have been booked from New Orleans, Chicago and Austin, including Mingo Fishtrap, a group that played Nightfall last summer. Local acts will be announced as soon as they are confirmed, Morrow said.

But what will set the new stage apart from the rest of the festival are some of the food and beverage offerings inside the tent that will not be available elsewhere on the grounds.

“This area will be enclosed and a little more intimate and exclusive. There will be Cajun cuisine, specialty drinks and craft beers, plus things you can’t get at other areas of the festival,” Morrow said.

The newly opened Meo Mio’s Cajun Restaurant on Cummings Highway has come on board as a new sponsor this year and will be providing the authentic ethnic food each night, including the restaurant’s signature appetizer and local favorite buffalo shrimp, as well as po-boy sandwiches.
