Annual Grateful Gobbler is Thanksgiving Day tradition

Authored By Sean Phipps

Burn a few calories ahead of the big meal on Thanksgiving Day with the annual Grateful Gobbler walk/run in Coolidge Park.

More than 4,000 people are expected to participate in the 17th annual event, presented by First Tennessee Bank. The walk is at 8 a.m., and registration takes place from 6 until 7:45 a.m.

Registration is $25 for walkers/runners 13 years and older and $10 for ages 12 and under. Those who will be traveling or out of town during the event can support the Grateful Gobbler by becoming a virtual or sleep walker for $15.

All proceeds benefit the Maclellan Shelter for Families at the Chattanooga Community Kitchen. The emergency shelter has 13 units with 64 beds. The goal is to provide a stable environment for an intact family to remain together as they search for permanent housing solutions.

Since 2014, more than 200 families have benefited from the programs, including meals, case management and job training.

On Wednesday, walkers can pick up registration packets between 10:30 a.m. and 6 p.m. at the pavilion in Coolidge Park.
