Good morning, Chattanooga. ☀️ Trista here, and I’ve got some great news for the freelancers out there. Just last week, Chattanooga was ranked 30 out of 150 cities for those who work remotely.

The study used data from five metrics — median rent, average internet speed, number of coffee shops per capita, income taxes (based on the median freelancer income of $52,074), and ease of getting around which was based on the average of a combined walkability, transit + biking score.

By the numbers:

💸 Median rent = $1,131 for a one bedroom

💻 Internet speed = 59.23 mbps

☕ Coffee shops = 4.0 per capita

🧾 Taxes = $8,739, federal + state

🚴 Getting around = 28, bike + walk + transit (with the highest score on the list being 57)

It’s not surprising we made it on the list considering the large companies located here that allow remote work, like UNUM and BlueCross BlueShield of Tennessee.

And for individuals who take a more autonomous approach, we have incredibly fast internet, coffee shops all over town + affordable housing. Living in Scenic City doesn’t hurt, either -- there’s always a beautiful place to take a break and regain perspective and inspiration.

Now it’s your turn -- if you work from home, a co-working space + or coffee shops, we want to hear from you. Give us all the details, and then tell us what changes you’d like to see in the Chattanooga freelancing scene. We don’t have a magic wand or anything, but we do like a good conversation.
