Ice on the Landing opens Friday

Authored By seanphippster

The venue may be different this season, but the festive holiday atmosphere remains.

Chattanooga Presents, along with Volkswagen Chattanooga, will open Ice on the Landing Friday.

The new location at the Chattanooga Choo-Choo’s Glenn Miller Gardens features a 140-by-40-foot open-air skating rink, surrounded by gas lanterns and train cars.

The season opens at 6 p.m. with a live organ performance by Buddy Shirk, vending and activities for the entire family.

Tickets are $10 for adults and $8 for skaters 12 and under. That price includes skate rentals and two hours of skating. The eight-week season will run through Jan. 16, and the rink is open daily.

Season passes are available for $100 for individuals and $200 for a family of four.

“We love being part of the entertainment district in the Southside,” said Carla Prichard, owner of Chattanooga Presents. “It would be hard to imagine a more picture-perfect setting than the beautiful gardens in the Choo-Choo, and we feel this location will offer a lot of amenities for our guests, such as convenient parking, shuttle service and indoor restrooms.”

In addition to daily skating, the schedule also includes themed nights and events, music and promotions, and benefits for local charities.

The rink is also available for birthday parties that include pizza and cupcakes. And a basic skills course will be offered each Saturday morning from 9 to 10 a.m. prior to opening.

Early season rink hours are Monday through Wednesday from 2 to 9 p.m., Thursday and Friday from 2 to 11 p.m., Saturday from 10 a.m. to 11 p.m. and Sunday from 12 to 9 p.m. A complete list of hours and special events can be found here.

Ice on the Landing is Chattanooga’s only ice skating facility, offering “a unique wintertime recreational experience to highlight Chattanooga during the holiday season.”
