The Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park announced this morning that parts of Lafayette Road will be closed from November until June.
While closed, crews will work to complete asphalt resurfacing, bridge restoration projects, and the replacement of the traffic light at the intersection of Reed’s Bridge Road and McFarland Gap Road.
The visitors center will remain open, but officials said that all roads within park boundaries will be affected by this closure.
The repair work will be done in three phases.
The first phase will be the traffic right replacement and asphalt resurfacing that will extend to (but not include) the Glenn-Kelly Road/Alexander Bridge Road intersection. During phase one, temporary employee and visitor parking will be provided in McDonald Field, which is adjacent to the visitors center. Handicapped-accessible parking will still be available close to the center.
Phase two will include the resurfacing of the Glenn-Kelly Road/Alexander Bridge Road intersection and extend to Brotherton Road (which is near the fourth tour stop).
The third phase will extend from Brotherton Road to the park’s southern boundary.
For more information on the road closure, contact Jeffry Thul, chief of facilities management, at 423-752-5213, extension 125.
