You may begin to notice some new, bright pink billboards around townand they’ve got an important message for Chattanoogans.

The billboards are part of a local, multi-faceted antisemitism awareness campaign launched by the Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga in partnership with JewBelong to foster awareness and discussion about antisemitism across the community.

Chattanooga is the smallest city to partner with JewBelong in this new campaign that includes:
  • Nine pink billboards posted throughout the city with messages about antisemitism and security. The billboards will be posted for eight weeks beginning this week.
  • Thousands of postcards sent via mail to community members.
  • Special candles that will be distributed to “shine a light” on antisemitism.
  • Work with local officials to support the campaign and local media outlets for additional coverage.
  • Online resources.

Where are the billboards?

  • McCallie Avenue, 900 ft east of Central Avenue (near Kankus)
  • Shallowford Road, 690 ft west of Lee Highway (near Chatter Box Cafe)
  • Hixson Pike, 0.3 miles north of Highway 153 (near Northgate)
  • Highway 153, 742 ft north of Jersey Pike (near the Public Storage space)
  • Signal Mountain Road, 300 ft west of US 27 (near Baylor)
  • Brainerd Road, 350 ft east of Moore Road (near Touchdown Wings)
  • Amnicola Highway, 0.5 miles south of Wisdom Street (near Choo Choo BBQ)
  • Dayton Boulevard, 200 ft south of Ashland Terrace (near Bread and Butter)
  • East Brainerd Road, 0.1 mile east of Morris Hill Road (near Uncle Larry’s)

What can you do?

We’re glad you asked:
  • Take photos of the billboards + share the awareness campaign through social media.
  • Join the Jewish Federation email list to receive ongoing information on how you can be active to help combat antisemitism.
  • Share these resources with others.
  • Pick up campaign post cards + candles at the Jewish Community Center to share.
  • Come out and support the organization’s upcoming Community Chanukah Celebration.
  • Starting in January, you can also check out the Americans and the Holocaust exhibit coming to the Chattanooga Public library.
"Even if it doesn’t affect you, [antisemitism] affects the community, your neighbors, your friends, and your family.” — Jewish Federation of Greater Chattanooga Executive Director, Michael Dzik

THE WRAP
Today’s issue was written by Brianna.

Editor’s pick: My husband and I recently drove through The Canyons neighborhood in Hixson to check out their lights display, and I think it tops my personal list of “best lights” in Chattanooga. The neighborhood has a full Whoville display with Mount Crumpit, a huge inflatable Grinch, and even a “stink stank stunk” sign on a porta potty. I highly recommend checking it out.
