Details • Modifies + reconstructs highway between Georgia state line and west of East Brainerd Road interchange on I-75 • Updates highway between Spring Creek Road and the I-75/I-24 interchange • Increases the safety, efficiency, and operation of the interstate + provides congestion relief • Widens existing roads and ramps • Increases ramp radii • Reconfigures I-24 ramps to enter and exit I-75 from the right side • Shifts the interchange to the west and modifies welcome center traffic circulation • Includes new bridges for Spring Creek Road over I-24 + interstate bridges • Implements retaining walls along interstate ramps and between I-75 and the welcome center

Civic ○ On Apr. 28, Chattanooga Mayor Tim Kelly named Emily O’DonnellChattanooga’s City Attorney. If the City Council approves his nomination, O’Donnell will become the city’s first woman to have the city attorney position. (NewsChannel 9)
Closing ○ Hixson’s Dallas Bay Airport — a private airport open to the public + small aircraft — has plans to permanently close in late summer or early fall. The airport has been in operation for nearly 6 decades. ✈️ (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Coronavirus ○ Hamilton County’s mask mandate ended on Apr. 28 at 11:59 p.m., but the TN Supreme Court Order that requires anyone entering a building where legal proceedings are conducted is still in effect. (Chattanoogan.com)
State ○ Speaking of road construction … State officials released TDOT’s annual 3-year transportation program, which features about $2.6 billion in infrastructure investments. The I-75 interchange modification at I-24 has been deemed a critical transportation project + will take priority along with 4 other projects. 🚧 ○ The Tennessee Department of Safety and Homeland Security announced that the implementation of the REAL ID has been extended anadditional 19 months. REAL IDs are now required to board US commercial flights + enter government buildings beginning May 3, 2023.
Edu ○ Hamilton County Schools was the first school district in the state to pass an improved water access policy for students last month. It will be added to the existing student wellness policy and will install water bottle refilling stations in all newly constructed or majorly renovated schools.
WaterCooler ○ Erlanger’s sports medicine team announced two May dates for pre-participation sports physicals for the 2021-22 school year. The physicals require no appointment + will take place on May 1 and May 15 from 8 a.m.-12 p.m. at the Erlanger Sports and Health Institute (1100 E. Third St.). 🩺
