We hope you saved room for thirds

Introducing Artists Sunday: it’s like Black Friday (or if you prefer, Small Business Saturday), but for art. 🎨

Whether you’re a connoisseur or just curious about art, you can shop original, handmade items and even creative experiences to gift to your loved ones. Not only will your gifts arrive on time, you’ll also be supporting local artists and their impact through enriching our lives + communities — not to mention the local economy.

NEWS NOTES

Weather

  • 62º | Scattered showers | 53% chance of rain 🌧️

Holiday

  • Happy Turkey Day — today is Thanksgiving, a day of thanks celebrated since 1621 and made a national holiday in 1863 by Abraham Lincoln. Thanks, Abe. Plus, if the 3 turkey trots today are any indication, we’ll finish out the holiday in great shape.

Outdoors

  • Tennessee State Parks is hosting “After Thanksgiving Hikes” across the state on Fri., Nov. 26. Hikes will be guided or self-directed, giving people the opportunity to enjoy nature and the educational aspects + histories of the parks. 🥾 (The Pulse)

Pets

  • In honor of Black Friday, McKamey Animal Center will host a “Paw It Forward” adoption event tomorrow from 11 a.m.-8 p.m. Bring in an item — or several items — off of McKamey’s holiday wish list, and receive 50% off your adoption fee.

Watch

  • Though the aquarium will be closed for Thanksgiving today, rest assured that the animals will be eating well — from normal Thanksgiving menu items like beets + carrots to more unusual ones like mice + frozen plankton. Check out these adorable videos to see them noshing on their meals.

History

  • Two new interpretive panels were unveiled yesterday: one near Dunlap, and one near Signal Mountain (off US-127). The signs are meant to educate passers-by about Sesquatchie valley’s natural, geological + cultural history, adding to the National Scenic Byway Program.

EPB employees + executives (including CEO David Wade) unveiled this year’s holiday window display at the EPB office on Broad and Market St. — alongside the STEM School Chattanooga students who worked on it.

The theme is Chatta Whoville, and along with the interior decorations (think: dancing penguins), it’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas.
