Levithan and co-author Nina LaCour have received widespread acclaim for their novel. The coming-of-age story is set during Pride Week in San Francisco. It follows characters Mark and Kate in alternating perspectives as they explore the heartbreak of unrequited affection, maintaining personal care and the importance of risk-taking.
Currently editorial director at Scholastic, Levithan is also the author of award-winning fiction titles “The Realm of Possibility” and “Every Day,” and co-author of “Nick & Nora’s Infinite Playlist.” The latter novel was adapted into a feature-length film starring Michael Cera and Kat Dennings.
With “You Know Me Well,” Levithan continues to shine. Edge Media, the largest LBGT news network, said that “few literary titles have been able to portray adult romance as honestly and believably as LaCour and Leviathan manage to in this irresistible teenage tale.”
The novel began as a conversation between Levithan and LaCour, sparking a back-and-forth discourse for two and a half years.
“You Know Me Well” is the result.
A preview of the book from St. Martin’s Press:
Mark and Kate have sat next to each other for an entire year, but have never spoken. Until, on the first night of Pride-far from home-their paths cross in the most unexpected places.
Mark is making what feels like one last effort to win the heart of his best friend, Ryan, whom he has been in love with secretly for years. Kate is running away from the girl of her dreams on the one night she might actually get to meet her in person, finally after years of pining from afar.
When Mark and Kate find one another, it’s friends at first sight. In the course of one week, the two will journey through heartache and exhilaration, they will open their heart to new ways of being, and they will do it together.
Local author Matthew Hubbard will introduce Levithan during the event. Hubbard is the author of two novels, “Drowning” and “I Am.” Both of his novels were considered Barnes & Noble “must-read” titles.
