Calling all grandparents. Looking for some fun things to do around Chattanooga with your grandchildren? Good thing the Scenic City has plenty of options to make a day out on the town with the grandkids one to remember.
Not a grandparent? No worries, these activities are all still kid-friendly + fun for the whole family. Shoutout to reader Steve S. for the idea of compiling this list.
📚 Spend some time at the Chattanooga Public Library
Have grandchildren of all ages? The Chattanooga Library has events + activities for babies, toddlers, tweens, and teens. Check out their event calendar for story times, arts and crafts, and more.
🚂 Take a train ride
Bring the love for toy trains to life with a local train ride through Missionary Ridge. The Tennessee Valley Railroad also offers holiday-themed train rides if you want to plan ahead.
🧗 Stop by Outdoor Chattanooga
If your family is full of nature + outdoor activity lovers, Outdoor Chattanooga has several options to spend your day. We recommend trying out rock climbing on the Walnut Wall.
🌳 Enjoy Coolidge Park
Grab some food from a nearby restaurant for a picnic, take a ride on the carousel, and bring a frisbee, kite, or ball for a day of fun in the park. Bonus: you can also check out some of Chattanooga’s underrated parks for more fun.

This week, the City of Chattanooga is joining local + regional partners to host a lineup of Minority Enterprise Development Week events. The events are free and geared toward minority business owners, leaders, or individuals interested in starting or growing a business.
Two big local business events are happening this week. Startup pitch competition Will This Float will take place today at Miller Plaza at 5:30 p.m., and TVFCU’s Idea Leap Grant pitch competition will take place at the Bessie Smith Cultural Center on Tues., Oct. 18 at 6:15 p.m. 💼

CARTA Care-A-Van Paratransit services are now available in Red Bank for qualifying seniors ages 65+ and individuals with permanent or temporary disabilities. Residents hoping to use the service will need to have a completed, approved, and current CARTA Eligibility Application on file. 🚌
Civic
Today is retired CPD Chief David Roddy’s first day joining county Mayor Weston Wamp’s team as a special advisor. Roddy previously served 26 years with CPD, the last four of which he served as Chief of Police. (Local 3)
Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors invitesthe public to participate in its second workshop to help develop a master plan for Chattanooga’s parks, recreation, and outdoor spaces. The workshop will take place at the Avondale Community Center on Thurs., Oct. 27 at 5 p.m. 🌳
Cause
In its first year, Tech Goes Home Tennessee’s Early Childhood expansion surpassed its initial goal of 500 participants by nearly 100. The participants from the first year represent 270 child care agencies across 42 Tennessee counties.

The Chattanooga Design Studio’s next CIVIQ speaker series will feature parks expert Mitchell Silver’s “Planning for a 21st Century Parks and Public Spaces: What’s Next?” presentation. The free event will take place on Thurs., Nov. 10 at The Camp House — make sure to RSVP.
