State
Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti announced that ~$84 million was paid to the state + local governments to combat the opioid crisis in Tennessee. The funds will be disbursed by the Tennessee Opioid Abatement Council to “repair the damage caused by the opioid epidemic.” (Chattanoogan.com)
Seasonal
Tickets are now on sale for one of the city’s most beloved holiday traditions. The Chattanooga Ballet’s performance of “The Nutcracker” will run Dec. 9-11 at the Memorial Auditorium + will feature the Chattanooga Symphony Orchestra, a live choir, and over 200 ballet students from the region. 🩰
Sports
Over the weekend, the Chattanooga Red Wolves took on Tormenta FC in the team’s first USL League One Final. Tormenta FC took home the winning title with a score of 2-1 — congrats on a great season, Red Wolves.
Cause
The Rotaract Club of Chattanooga — a volunteer-driven young professionals organization that exemplifies “service above self” — is currently accepting nominations + applications for its 2023 New Class Membership. The organization will accept submissions through Friday, Nov. 18.
To kick off the giving season, The Salvation Army’s Chattanooga Area Command has launched its Love Beyond the Holidays Campaign. The campaign features holiday programs + events to support thousands of Chattanoogans who are in need. ❤️
Community
The Chattanooga Tourism Co.'s new information center located downtown is now officially open. The center, open daily from 10 a.m.-5 p.m., provides local and regional information to visitors and residents.
UTC
UTC is launching a new cybersecurity Bachelor of Applied Science. The Information Technology in Cybersecuritydegree program will begin in the spring 2023 semester + directly address workforce needs as employment demand is expected to grow 22-24% in the next five years. Our very own Chattanooga Public Library was one of 50 libraries in the US selected to host “Americans and the Holocaust,” a traveling exhibition from the US Holocaust Memorial Museum.
The exhibit examines the motives, pressures, and fears that shaped Americans responses to Nazism, war, and genocide in Europe during the 1930s and 1940s.
The exhibit will be on display from Jan. 27-Feb. 27, including special free events like:
