Looking to get out and enjoy the local and regional music scene a little more this year? Reader Marsha B. suggested we share some upcoming music events coming to Chattanooga and the surrounding areas — and we think that’s a great idea.

This Valentine’s season, enjoy swing and big band tunes at Chattanooga Symphony’s annual Big Band’s Best! event on Saturday,Jan. 28 at 7:30 p.m., where attendees can hit the open dance floor during the performance.

Habitat for Humanity of Greater Chattanooga is breaking ground on the first-ever United Way Home this morning at 3431 Kirkland Ave. The home is being built for local Food City employee Jasmine McCann and her two children. (Chattanoogan.com)

In case you missed it, Chattanooga’s first QuikTrip — not to be confused with Wisconsin-based Kwik Trip — opened last week. The new Tulsa, OK-based convenience store is located at 312 Browns Ferry Rd.

Local organization Soft Animal is offering Deaf-taught American Sign Language classes beginning Saturday, Jan. 21. The organization will offer ASL 101 for beginners or anyone who wants to refresh their skills + ASL 102, which will not include a voice interpreter and relies on ASL or typing only. 🧏
Arts
Townsend Atelier’snewest art exhibit, “Abiding in the Moment,” will open on Friday, Feb. 3. The exhibit will feature work by two local artists, Robin Mackillop and Maria Willison. 🖼️

On Saturday, Feb. 18, the Chattanooga Lookouts will host their annual hiring fair at AT&T Field from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. Positions to be interviewed include food service staff, mascot performers, bat boys, promotions team, and more. Fill out an employment form here.

The Austin Hatcher Foundation will host its 16th annual Celebration of Life and Hope on Sept. 30. The gala-style event will feature family testimonies, auctions, live music, an open bar, food, entertainment, and more to support families that have been impacted by pediatric cancer.
