The Kelly administration + Station Street business owners announced a finalized 30-day safety plan for the district beginning on Friday, May 5. Notably, business owners can stay open until 3 a.m., and the outside open-container prohibition will remain in effect through next month. (Chattanoogan.com)
Environment
The first-ever East Ridge Clean Up Day will be held on Saturday, June 24 from 7 a.m.-12:30 p.m. at the East Ridge Community Center. Sign up to volunteer online — registration will end on Friday, June 2. Bonus: T-shirts and lunch will be provided to volunteers.
Traffic
Several roads and intersections along Market Street will be closed today, May 5 from 8:30-11:30 a.m. to stage the annual Armed Forces Day Parade. Detours will be posted.
Open
Chattanooga-based Scenic Suds Car Wash has opened a new $6 million location at Ashland Terrace + Norcross Road (across from the Highland Plaza shopping center). This is the eighth car wash location since the company opened nearly five years ago. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Cause
Lookout Wild Film Festival + Rock/Creek are partnering together to host Reel Rock 17, a fundraising event to benefit the Southern Climbers Coalition. The event will feature films, climbing challenges, food trucks, beer, and more fun. Get your tickets.
The Charles H. Coolidge National Medal of Honor Heritage Center will host its Third Annual Golf Tournament on Tuesday, May 9. The event held at Sweetens Cove Golf Club helps support the center + its mission to memorialize the history of the highest military award for valor.

The Houston Museum of Decorative Arts will have its opening reception for its first-ever artist-in-residence on Friday, May 19 from 6-8 p.m. The museum will display local artist Kris Bespalec’s “Acts of Preservation” installation. RSVP online.

Celebrate Juneteenth with a local festival

In honor of the “extraordinary contributions of artists of African descent,” the events and activities will take place all around the city with the help of local artists, speakers + workshop leaders, and more.
To kick off the jam-packed two weeks, the RBG Ball Fundraiser + Black Arts Awards will be on Saturday, June 3 at the Chattanooga Theatre Centre. This black-tie event will honor local artists trained in six disciplines — visual arts, dance, music, literary arts, film, and theater.
Folks can enjoy a cocktail hour and gourmet dinner provided by Chef Kenyatta Ashford with their ticket before the awards show.
Note: Only 101 tickets will be sold for the ball, but tickets for the awards can be purchased separately.
