Pop quiz: What marketing idea put Rock City Gardens on the map?

You’ve heard of Rock City Gardens — but do you know what Depression-era marketing idea helped make the panoramic attraction an American icon?

The answer: “See Rock City” Barns.

“See Rock City” is a slogan painted atop barns across the country — a clever eye-catching idea hatched to increase visitors when the garden + rock-formation marvel opened in the 1930s.

90 years later, efforts are underway to restore several of the roadside barns, with rooftops in Alabama, Georgia, and Tennessee already freshly painted.
