Saturday, Sept. 23 marks the first day of fall, and you could say we’re just a little bit excited. Here are 15+ festivals happening in and around town that will make you autumn-matically happy in the Scenic City.

Chattanooga’s Office of Community Health will offer free flu vaccines on Monday, Sept. 25 from 1 to 4 p.m. at the Downtown Library Care Clinic (located on the first floor). Bonus: A limited number of gift cards will be handed out at the event.
Biz
Southside eatery and bar Flying Squirrel will close its doors after service on Friday, Nov. 5. The restaurant cited in an Instagram post that it will reopen its doors as a new concept, Ernest Chinese, offering American Chinese food + tiki cocktails.
Holiday
Yom Kippur begins at sundown this Sunday, Sept. 24, marking the beginning of the Day of Atonement and holiest day of the Jewish calendar. Those who observe will refrain from eating or drinking until nightfall on Monday, Sept. 25. Check out local services.
Festival
The City of Chattanooga will host its inaugural Hispanic Heritage Festival on Sunday, Oct. 15 from 4 to 9 p.m. in Miller Park. The celebration will showcase Hispanic music, dancing, art, and cuisine + end with a showing of “Encanto.” (NewsChannel 9)
Civic
Michael Kirk has been hired as the director of property management for Hamilton County. In his role, Kirk will “oversee county buildings and budgeting and determine space allocations for departments.” (Chattanooga Times Free Press)
Arts
Scenic City Clay Arts’ Potter’s Alley will return for Between the Bridges Art Festival from Saturday, Oct. 14-Sunday, Oct. 15. Stop by on either day from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. in Coolidge Park to see work from 22 of SCCA’s ceramic artists.
Noogan
Jade Moore, a registered dietitian at Kindred Hospital Chattanooga, recently received national recognition at ScionHealth’s Caregiver Summit in Louisville, KY. Moore was one of three recipients of the Monarch Caring and Community Award, the highest honor given to caregivers.
UTC
UTC will receive a $562,497 grant from the US Department of Energy for its research team in collaboration with Oak Ridge National Laboratory. The funds will be used to research ways to “produce better modeling of reactive gas transport.” (University of Tennessee Chattanooga)
