Civic
  • Pending county commission approval, $260,000 will be used to upgrade court security. The funds, issued by the state, will go towards installing a “bulletproof bench in General Sessions Court, bulletproof glass for the Sheriff’s Office in the Courts Building, and security cameras.” (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

  • Georgia-based Cherry Street Brewing has permanently closed its NorthShore brewpub (300 Cherokee Blvd.) after two years of operation. “At this time, we will be putting the majority of our distributed products on hold,” cites the announcement, in reference to its Georgia breweries.
Cause
  • Turn the burrs into purrs. The Chattanooga Humane Educational Society will give out 30 straw-filled coolers to be placed in areas with stray cats to protect them from the cold temperatures. You can pick up a cooler today, Jan. 16 through Sunday, Jan. 21 while supplies last.

  • CARTA will receive $920,581 from Tennessee Department of Transportation’s IMPROVE Transit Investment Grant. The funds will go towards replacing fareboxes + collection equipment to increase options of payment.

  • The Chattanooga Zoo, in partnership with the Chattanooga Public Library, will host its Adventure Days at the Zoo on Sunday, Jan. 21. From 9 a.m. to 12 p.m., library cardholders (ages 18 and under) will get free admission + participate in hands-on activities.
