Howdy readers, City Editor Kristen here. When I was a kid, I used to love digging in our yard trying to find fossils or dinosaur bones (sorry mom and dad). Despite my best efforts, I never found anything of value, but three boys in North Dakota found the jackpot in 2022 — the bones of a teenage Tyrannosaurus Rex.

This discovery is the focal point of the documentary “T. Rex 3D,” which is set to hit the screen at the Tennessee Aquarium IMAX 3D Theater tomorrow, Aug. 29.

To get excited about the screening, folks can attend a premiere party hosted by the Tennessee Aquarium + Creative Discovery Museum staff starting at 5:30 p.m. Here’s what you can expect at the event:
  • Dino-dig stations with prizes
  • Fossil sifting stations + activities about minerals and fossils
  • Glow-in-the-dark dinosaur temporary tattoos
  • Photo ops with inflatable T-Rex mascots
  • Opportunities to win prizes (like a trip to Jurassic Park at the Islands of Adventure theme park at Universal Studios in Orlando, FL)

Don’t miss out on a photo with the T-Rex.

What you especially won’t want to miss is the 10-ft tall animatronic T-Rex (roughly the same size as the one discovered in the film) housed in the IMAX Great Hall. The dinosaur looks + moves as experts believe the species would have in real life. You can see the film and the T-Rex at the theater through Thursday, Oct. 31.

Tickets for the film are available on a first-come, first-served basis online. Note: If the theater is not sold out, walk-up tickets will be available.
