Celebrate Hispanic Heritage Month locally

Did you know Hispanic Heritage Month begins Sunday, Sept. 15? During the month-long celebration, several organizations in Chattanooga will host festivities to enjoy.

Fireworks + Noche de Lobos

Start the celebrations early with the Chattanooga Red Wolves as they take on Greenville Triumph tomorrow, Sept. 14. There will be a pre-game DJ on the concourse, food + drinks specials, and the final fireworks show of the season.

Hispanic Heritage Month at UTC

See the full lineup of events online, but make sure to check out the kick-off event on Monday, Sept. 16 featuring food from Guacamole Cocina Latina + Latin Dance Night on Thursday, Sept. 26.

NOOGAtoday | La Paz

La Paz Chattanooga will team up with Scenic City Clay Arts for Create, Move, and Sculpt on Saturday, Sept. 28.

Hispanic Heritage Festival

Join local nonprofit La Paz Chattanooga for a festival + soccer tournament on Saturday, Sept. 21 from 12 to 4 p.m. at Highland Park Commons. There will be food, entertainment, and crafts from local vendors — watch the soccer tournament beginning at 3 p.m.

Bonus: Lambda Theta Phi Latin Fraternity, the first and only Latino fraternity in Chattanooga, will be honored with a proclamation for nearly 50 years of achievements during the festival.

La Paz is also hosting several events throughout the month including giveback nights, Create, Move, and Sculpt event + the Best Sangria contest — follow their Instagram page for more information.

Fiestaval: A Taste of Latin American

Head to Miller Park on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 11 a.m. to 9 p.m. for a day of fun with food vendors, international + national performers, an artisan market, a kids area, a beer garden, and more. This event is free to attend.

Latin Festival

ChattState will host its free festival on Saturday, Oct. 5 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be performances, activities, and food trucks for the public to enjoy.

  • The final round of the Plan Hamilton County public meetings has been announced. Residents are encouraged to attend + provide feedback on the draft plans presented by county officials and members of the Chattanooga-Hamilton County Regional Planning Agency.
Development
  • The Tivoli Foundation has closed its $9 million New Markets Tax Credit transaction, fully funding the restoration of the Tivoli Theatre + the creation of the Tivoli Performing Arts Center. See what’s in store for the renovations. (Chattanoogan.com)

  • In case you missed it, Sofix, a specialty chemicals manufacturer, has ceased production + shut down its plant. The 22.7-acre site, which includes five buildings of varying sizes, at Centre South Riverport is currently up for sale. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

  • The Chattanooga Theatre Centre will hold auditions for its production of “Roald Dahl’s Willy Wonka” beginning Tuesday, Sept. 23. There are a total of 40 roles comprised of adult + youth actors for the musical.

  • Due to impending inclement weather, the Hart Gallery rescheduled its charity Shrimp Boil. The event will now take place on Tuesday, Sept. 24 beginning at 5 p.m.

Meet CO.LAB’s new cohort

The Company Lab (CO.LAB) + gener8tor have selected the five startups for its second Sustainable Mobility Accelerator cohort.

Each startup will temporarily relocate to Chattanooga for the 12-week program aimed at helping these businesses scale their ventures.

The startups each receive an initial $20,000 investment from the program, with the potential for adding up to $100,000 in follow-up funding.

The Spring 2024 cohort includes:
