In case you missed it, Make Music Day will return to the Scenic City on Saturday, June 21. Here are three venues you don’t want to miss day-of, plus our guide to more music venues around town:
Bessie Smith Cultural Center
You’ll want to head to this downtown museum for its annual Big 9 Music Fest starting at 3 p.m. for live Southern soul jams + vendors. Bonus: Check out the “Boots on the Ground” line dancing or the gospel-centered performances on Sunday, June 22.
Songbirds
Local band Et Cetera will host a free masterclass at 4:30 p.m., where you can get a crash course on what it takes to put on a show. Executive Director John Dooley said this space offers a premiere listening room experience + that he has been told it feels like “stepping off of Broadway in Nashville, but 30 years ago.”
Upper Room Studios Can’t make it out? This intimate studio + cultural hub will stream a showcase with East Lake Expression Engine, a student-filled El Sistema-inspired music project, at 11:30 a.m.
Mobile Library Debut + Carnival | 11 a.m.-3 p.m. | First Horizon Pavilion | Free | See the city’s new mobile library Sawubona + enjoy carnival-themed fun like performances from a magician and stilt walkers.

To honor the last 70 years, the City of Red Bank is asking residents to bring stories, photos, or news clippings about the area to its celebration on Saturday, June 21. The materials will be collected for archival on the city’s website.

After a national search, Sam Voisin has been named the new executive director of the Chattanooga Convention Center. Voisin will succeed Mike Shuford — who is retiring after 40 years — and continue to work with local leaders + organizations to build on the over $50 million annual economic impact of Shuford’s legacy.
