Cooler temperatures are on the way, which means it’s time to lace up your hiking boots.
We’ve compiled a hiking guide for the Chattanooga areawith 25 routes and trails to help you plan your next adventure.
Rainbow Falls
Located on Signal Mountain, this moderate hike leads to a waterfall that often showcases rainbows in its mist on sunny afternoons. Snooper’s Rock Trail
Enjoy a mostly shaded trail with a couple of small water crossings. At the end, folks can see a beautiful view of the Tennessee River Gorge.
Cherokee and Strut Trail
A good trail for beginners and popular for birding, hiking, running + biking.
Hawks Ridge Loop
Expect a beautiful and solitary journey along this trail during the quieter times of the day, making it perfect for trail runners and those taking a leisurely stroll.
South Chickamauga Creek Greenway
This clear and well-maintained trail makes it easy to view wildlife. Bonus: There is access to public restrooms.

It’s official. Chattanooga residents can now legally have up to eight hens in a backyard enclosure. The Chattanooga City Council voted 7-2 to end the 20-year ban this week, but roosters are still prohibited. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

Move over 423, there’s a new area code in town. The Tennessee Public Utility Commission is adding the 729 area code to our region. The reason? New phone numbers are in high demand. Starting Tuesday, Aug. 5, you’ll have to use the full, 10-digit number (including the area code) to make a local call. (The Pulse)

The air in Chattanooga is about to get cleaner. CARTA is adding three new all-electric shuttle vehicles, thanks to $1.2 million in federal funding. The new shuttles will feature upgraded technology and air conditioning — which is welcome news in this heat. (News Channel 9)
