Slow down on Cherokee Boulevard. The speed limit between Market Street and the Stringers Ridge Tunnel has been permanently lowered from 45 to 35 mph. City officials say the change is a response to shifting traffic patterns following recent road resurfacing. (Local 3 News)

“I want to see us build a bridge. It’s not going to happen this year, next year, or the next, but it’s a long-term plan that you build a bridge from Ooltewah to Soddy-Daisy,” said state Rep. Greg Martin. He said a new Tennessee River bridge would ease traffic and boost economic development. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

Starting this Wednesday, Aug. 20, the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office will raise starting salaries for patrol deputies to $62,000 and corrections deputies to $54,000. Sheriff Austin Garrett says the increase — funded without a tax hike — will help with recruitment and retention. (Chattanoogan)
Sports
Chattanooga FC signed forward Anthony Garcia, formerly of Austin FC II, where he played alongside current CFC midfielder Steeve Louis Jean. At La Sierra University, Garcia scored 42 goals in two seasons, earning 2022 Cal Pac Player of the Year and setting a school record for goals in a season.

Tech
What’s that sound? Dial-up’s final rings. AOL announced it will discontinue its dial-up services on Tuesday, Sept. 30, after three decades. Help bring any users up to speed by connecting them to NOOGAtoday when they get a new provider. (NPR)
Number
12,027. That’s roughly how many feet the world’s longest suspension bridge will be once completed. The project recently received final approval in Italy, and will connect the boot-shaped mainland with the island of Sicily. Comparing that to Walnut Street Bridge’s 2,376 ft helps put it in perspective. (BBC)
