Noontunes is a fun midday break where locals can relax outside, grab a bite, and soak up the atmosphere. | Photo provided by River City Co.
Who said live music festivals are just for weekends? Not me. That’s why I’m excited to share the return of your favorite lunchtime concert series: Noontunes.
The season kicks off Thursday, Sept. 4 at Miller Park, with a performance by indie-alternative artist Cody James Harris. If you can’t make the first one, don’t fret — Noontunes will feature local musicians every week of September, from 12 to 1 p.m.
It’s all part of the “Take a Break” series, which encourages folks to step away from their screens and enjoy a little midweek fun. While you’re soaking up the sounds, make sure to grab lunch from one of the food trucks on site.

As connoisseurs of the quirky and unconventional, we put together a list of Chattanooga’s history, oddest characteristics, and more. Maybe you’ve lived here your whole life and know some of this, or maybe you’ll learn something new.
1. The world-famous MoonPie was created at the Chattanooga Bakery in 1917. They were perfect for coal miners because they were filling, only cost five cents, and fit in a lunch pail. By 1929, hundreds were being boxed every day.
2.Tow trucks were first created in Chattanooga in the 1910s. A garage worker named Ernest Holmes Sr. was inspired to create the wrecker + lifting jib after he needed the help of six men to pull a car from a creek.
3. In 1899, two Chattanooga lawyers — Benjamin F. Thomas + Joseph B. Whitehead — bought Coca-Cola bottling rights for just $1. They opened the first Coca-Cola bottling company right here in town, at 17 Market St.

In the Newsweek article I shared about popular cat names, “Luna” was the top name in 21 states. It actually made me laugh out loud because I have a cat named Luna, and she’s convinced she’s one of a kind. I won’t tell her she’s trending — her ego can’t take it.
