News Notes

Have you seen these flying through the air? Because I know I have. At first I thought it was pollen, but apparently — they’re bugs. Woolly aphids don’t really care about us (like mosquitoes do), they’re after tree sap. You should stop seeing them by late October or early November. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

Traffic

Heads up, drivers. Speed cameras near Orchard Knob Elementary and Brainerd High are now active. For the next month, you’ll get a warning if you’re caught speeding — but after that, it’s a $50 fine and a citation. (News Channel 9)

Sports

Chattanooga FC clinched a home playoff match with a 5-4 shootout win over Atlanta United 2 on Sunday. The Eastern Conference Quarterfinals are set for Sunday, Oct. 19 at Finley Stadium. Tickets are on sale now. (The Pulse)

Try This

A Thanksgiving meal — with dozens of your neighbors. Volunteers are needed to help with Gratefull, Chattanooga’s free potluck on Thursday, Nov. 20, 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. on East MLK Boulevard. You can sign up to volunteer or simply join the community at one long table to share a meal.

Open

Parkridge Health opened a new Mental Health Therapy Center at UTC, offering individual and group therapy for students, faculty, and staff. The center will provide treatment for those suffering from anxiety, depression, trauma, stress, and more. (Local 3 News)

State

Bird’s the word. From bald eagles to robins to purple martins, Tennessee is a bird-watcher’s paradise. The state recently dropped a Birding in Tennessee guide — packed with top spots, migration tips, and more. (News Channel 9)

Festival

The #1 festival in Haywood County is back: Smoky Mountains Bluegrass Festival returns on Saturday, Oct. 25. After canceling in 2024 due to Hurricane Helene, the stunning Maggie Valley Festival Grounds are waiting to welcome you back for a weekend of music and community. Get tickets.*

Editor’s Pick

Children gather around a campfire on a grassy field, roasting marshmallows. Others socialize in the background, creating a lively, joyful atmosphere.

Campfires, fall weather, and live music — these are a few of my favorite things. Yes, I hope you read that in Julie Andrews’ voice. And yes, there’s a place where you can enjoy all three at once.

At the Campfire Concert Series at Reflection Riding, you can gather around a campfire, listen to music, eat s’mores + other food truck treats, and sip on drinks from Chattanooga Whiskey or Hutton & Smith Brewing Company.

This Friday, Oct. 10, Gabriel Broussard Thomas will perform at 6:15 p.m., so give him a listen and grab your tickets.

The Buy

Two more can’t-miss deals from Amazon’s Prime Big Deal Days sale: this Eddie Bauer down jacket that’s over 70% off and $250 off Samsonite’s three-piece hardside luggage set.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Sarah

Football season is in full swing, which means your couch has probably been working overtime lately. Need a change of scenery? Little Coyote is now streaming games on its patio every weekend with a brand new projector.

If you prefer your home turf, you can pick up a tailgate party platter and let Little Coyote handle the snacks while you focus on the game.
