How to support Chattanooga families

With the holidays approaching and local food banks reporting an increase in demand, there’s never been a better time to help your fellow Chattanoogans. Consider contributing to one of these organizations:

Chattanooga Area Food Bank

The Chattanooga Area Food Bank is distributing 30% more food than it typically does and extending hours at pantry sites to support more families. You can help by making a donation or volunteering at a food pantry or warehouse.

Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga

The Salvation Army says food assistance requests are three to five times higher than usual. You can help by donating online or sending a check to The Salvation Army of Greater Chattanooga, PO Box 3359, Chattanooga, TN 37404. The nonprofit says $50 will feed up to five families for a week. You can also bring non-perishable food to these locations:

  • 614 Corps, 800 McCallie Ave.
  • Area Command, 1019 N Moore Rd.
  • East Lake Corps, 2140 E 28th St.

They’re open Monday through Thursday, 9 a.m.-3 p.m.

The Buy

The right American Home Shield plan to cover your plumbing, electrical, and heating this winter. For a manageable monthly fee, you can cover the repair or replacement of major home systems. The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Sarah

I recently spent some time in the Bluff View Art District, and of course, I had to stop by Rembrandt’s Coffee House. I ordered “The Rembrandt” — a latte with Irish cream, cocoa, and an almond meltaway cookie. It was delicious and the perfect way to warm up on a chilly day. I also got the “Bluff View Burrito” but scarfed it down before I could take a picture. No notes.
A latte with intricate leaf latte art sits on a green tray next to a small pastry on a napkin. The setting is an outdoor metal table. Cozy and inviting.

I quickly realized why they call this a “meltaway” cookie.
