Environment

If you see smoke near Heritage Park in East Brainerd this afternoon, don’t panic. Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors is doing a prescribed burn between 12 and 4 p.m. Here’s why prescribed burns are beneficial to the environment. (Local 3 News)

EPB and Vanderbilt University are teaming up to launch the new Institute for Quantum Innovation in Chattanooga. The project will bring graduate students, researchers, and new job opportunities to the city, with Vanderbilt planning a local campus to work directly with EPB’s quantum network. (The Pulse)

Traffic

Good news for those living in the Tyner area: the Standifer Gap Road bridge is finally getting replaced after being closed since 2016 for structural issues. Chattanooga just got federal approval to move forward and will now work with TDOT to open the bidding process this spring. (Chattanoogan)

Legacy

Former State Rep. Gerald McCormick has died after a battle with ALS. McCormick was first elected to the Tennessee House in 2004 and served seven terms, representing parts of Chattanooga and Hamilton County. He resigned from the legislature in 2018. (News Channel 9)
