News Notes

Opening

Whataburger is expected to open its East Ridge location on Monday, Jan. 26. It’s in the former Wally’s Restaurant spot at 6521 Ringgold Rd. Along with burgers, the chain also serves chicken, salads, and breakfast. Another Chattanooga location is also in the works — stay tuned for an opening date. (Local 3 News)

Civic

Hamilton County Clerk Chief Deputy Brooke Weaver will be the guest speaker at Friends of Hixson’s January Coffee Meeting this morning from 8 to 9 a.m. at Clear Creek Church. She’s expected to talk about the current services and initiatives impacting Hamilton County residents. It’s free to attend.

Traffic

Roberts Mill Road will be closed today from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. for maintenance and guardrail repairs. Drivers can use the W Road or Taft Highway instead. (WDEF)

Eat

You won’t have to wait much longer for Brothers Bagel in Brainerd. The shop’s grand opening is this Friday, Jan. 23 from 6 a.m. to 2 p.m (or whenever they sell out). Bonus: Buy something on opening day and you’ll get a free bagel and schmear card.

Try This

We know it’s cold outside, but here’s a reason to grab ice cream anyway. Clumpies is bringing back its “Cup of Ambition” flavor in honor of Dolly Parton’s 80th birthday. It’s coffee ice cream with coffee ganache swirls and mocha brownie chunks. A little treat after working 9 to 5, perhaps?

Quoted

“Did we just become best friends?” We know it’s a “Step Brothers” quote, but it’s what we imagine this dog and pig were thinking when they first locked eyes. Their owner says the 6-year-old lab and 10-month-old piglet are inseparable. Keep an eye out for them if you’re on Signal Mountain. (Local 3 News)

  • Gouda and Havarti
  • Monty and Addie
You can vote online with a $3 donation or in person at their enclosure in the Corcovado Jungle section of the zoo. Voting ends on Saturday, Jan. 31. Follow the zoo on social media to find out which names win.

The Wrap

Today’s edition by: Sarah

The zoo’s emperor tamarins aren’t the only babies in need of names. The Chattanooga Audubon Society says there are two new baby goats on Maclellan Island, and just like the monkeys at the zoo, you can make a donation to name them. Should this win an award for the cutest NOOGAtoday newsletter, or what?
Two baby goats side by side. The left goat is in straw, displaying a curious expression, and the right goat stands on dirt with closed eyes, appearing content.

Baby Goat 1 and Baby Goat 2 sure are cute.
