Editor’s Pick

Front page of the Chattanooga Daily Times from April 16, 1930. The headline reads, "Lookouts Rally in Ninth, Make Three Runs to Beat Atlanta, 6-5, Before 16,000."

Since yesterday was Groundhog Day, we asked NOOGAtoday readers which day they’d most like to relive in Chattanooga (like Bill Murray’s character in the 1993 movie). Tony W. wrote in with his pick: April 15, 1930, when the Lookouts opened their season at the brand-new Engel Stadium. The Lookouts beat the Atlanta Crackers 6-5 that day, delighting a record-breaking crowd of 16,000 fans.

Fast forward 96 years, and the Lookouts are preparing to open another season in another brand-new stadium. Opening Day at Erlanger Park is Tuesday, April 14.

Answered

Will it snow in Chattanooga this weekend?

Readers were cautiously optimistic — and technically right.
  • 35%: I think it will
  • 25%: Definitely not
  • 35%: Maybe not, but I wish it would
Chattanooga got a light dusting of snow between ½ inch and 1 inch on Saturday, Jan. 31. Maybe not enough to satisfy the “I wish it would” crowd, but at least it was something.

The Wrap

Tired of the cold? I have good news and bad news. The bad news: Punxsutawney Phil is predicting six more weeks of winter. The good news: We’re exactly halfway between the winter solstice and spring equinox, meaning the days are getting longer, and magnolias and dogwoods will be at full bloom before we know it. It’s also the perfect excuse to plan a summer vacation, starting at CHA.
