News Notes

History

Want to learn some local history and get your steps in? Join Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park for a free historian-led hike exploring the Battle of Lookout Mountain at Bald Hill. The 2.5-mile hike happens Sunday, Feb. 15 from 2 to 4 p.m.

Development

Construction has started on a 278-unit mixed-income apartment complex in Northshore, the first to use Chattanooga’s revamped tax incentive. In exchange for tax breaks, the development will include 42 affordable units for at least 15 years. The project is expected to wrap up in late 2027. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

Chattanoogan

Local songwriter Nick Lutsko composed the music for this hilarious MANSCAPED Super Bowl ad, featuring singing clumps of hair (no, we’re not kidding) that are sad they’ve been shaved. Watch it now and look for it again before the coin toss this Sunday, Feb. 8.

Try This

What’s more romantic than a craft? Hear us out. Scenic City Clay Arts is offering take-home Valentine’s Day clay kits, perfect for couples who want to make two handmade mugs with heart-shaped handles. “We were able to flip some guys that were committed [elsewhere] and get some good players in here,” UTC Head Football Coach Rusty Wright said of the new recruits. The Mocs have added 39 new players to the roster for next season, with 65 players returning.

State

There are no athletes representing Chattanooga in Team USA for the 2026 Winter Olympics. In fact, there are none from Tennessee heading to Northern Italy to compete. If you want to buck that trend in four years’ time, consider taking ice skating lessons at Ice on the Landing next winter. (NBC)
Take your Southern hospitality to the next level by making a personalized logo for your home. You can put it on things like matchboxes, coffee cups, and notepads to create a hotel-style feel. Some East Tennessee flora would be a great touch — get inspired at a local park. (Southern Living)

The votes have been tallied, and the results are in. The names for the Chattanooga Zoo’s two baby emperor tamarin monkeys are... drum roll... Basil and Sage.

The twin brothers are now on exhibit in the Corcovado Jungle section, so when you visit them, you know what to call them. Here’s a map to help you get to the cuteness faster.
