Big changes at the riverfront

Aerial view of a vibrant urban riverside park, featuring green lawns, trees, walkways, a pier with boats, and nearby city buildings, evoking a lively atmosphere.

Chattanooga’s riverfront hosts dozens of events each year and offers a scenic place to walk for locals and tourists alike. But this fall, it’ll close for 18 months for renovations. Here’s what’s planned:

More shade

Right now, the riverfront doesn’t have a lot of shady spots to get out of the sun. As you can see in the rendering above, the project includes planting 200+ trees to keep visitors cool.
A modern two-story building with large windows is set in a park with people walking around on the paths. The sky glows with a warm sunset.

This restaurant will offer seated meals with a view.

New restaurants

Two restaurants are planned for each end of Ross’s Landing. One will be more casual with grab-and-go options, while the other will offer sit-down service with elevated fare.

Riverfront dock

The commercial dock at Ross’s Landing will expand to give visitors better access to the water. The expanded dock will be ~5,600 sqft and open to the public.
Under a large overpass, people enjoy colorful outdoor basketball and pickleball courts. Cars are parked nearby with greenery and buildings in the background.

This space under the highway will become a place to play and park.

Recreational courts

Pickleball under Highway 27? That’s right. The space beneath the highway will be used for recreational courts.

The project will also add a new playground, updated lighting, public restrooms, and improved accessibility.

Answered

Which tribute band WON’T be at Riverfront Nights?

Not sure if my “Lyin’ Eyes” reference tipped the scales, but 57% of readers correctly answered 7 Bridges, an Eagles tribute band.

But don’t despair — you can still hear the greatest hits from Tom Petty & The Heartbreakers (The Broken Hearts), Elton John (Greggie and The Jets), and Fleetwood Mac (Back to Mac) this summer.
