Big changes at the riverfront
Here’s a bird’s-eye view of what the riverfront could look like in May 2028. | Rendering via River City Company
Chattanooga’s riverfront hosts dozens of events each year and offers a scenic place to walk for locals and tourists alike. But this fall, it’ll close for 18 months for renovations. Here’s what’s planned:
More shade
Right now, the riverfront doesn’t have a lot of shady spots to get out of the sun. As you can see in the rendering above, the project includes planting 200+ trees to keep visitors cool.
This restaurant will offer seated meals with a view.

New restaurants
Two restaurants are planned for each end of Ross’s Landing. One will be more casual with grab-and-go options, while the other will offer sit-down service with elevated fare.
Riverfront dock
The commercial dock at Ross’s Landing will expand to give visitors better access to the water. The expanded dock will be ~5,600 sqft and open to the public.
This space under the highway will become a place to play and park.

Recreational courts
Pickleball under Highway 27? That’s right. The space beneath the highway will be used for recreational courts.
The project will also add a new playground, updated lighting, public restrooms, and improved accessibility.
You can now book a nonstop flight from Chattanooga Airport to Houston. United Airlines has launched twice-daily service, with departures at 7 a.m. and 5:15 p.m. to George Bush Intercontinental Airport. CHA now offers 15 nonstop flights, six of them with daily service.
Sports
Chattanooga Roller Derby will host its home opener this Saturday, April 4 at Camp Jordan Arena. It’s a double header, so plan for games at 4 and 6 p.m. One ticket gets you into both — get them online or at the door.
Try This
Next weekend, you can play pickleball and help others at the same time. Red Bank is having a tournament for all ages on Saturday, April 11 and Sunday, April 12 at 3899 Redding Rd. The entry fee is $50 and all proceeds benefit the Red Bank food pantry. Register online.
Theater
With two shows left in the 2025-2026 Broadway season at Memorial Auditorium, we’re looking ahead to next season. But it won’t be at Memorial Auditorium. It’ll be at the restored Tivoli Theatre. RSVP to the lineup reveal party on Monday, April 20 at 5:30 p.m. at Walker Theatre.
Family
The grand opening for the new Wildwood Playscape will be Friday, April 24 at 1 p.m. at Enterprise South Nature Park. After the ribbon cutting, families can check out the new playscape and meet the wood carving artist who helped create it.
