What to expect this spring
Spring forward with us. | Photo by Lori T. (submitted for our 2023 Picture of the Year contest)
After a mid-March snowfall, we’re all left wondering what weather to expect this season. Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperature and precipitation trends to be on the lookout for.
Reminder: The first day of spring is this Friday, March 20.
Temperature
This spring, Chattanooga has a 33-40% chance of temperatures being higher than last year’s temps.
Precipitation
It’s a toss-up. Chattanooga has equal chances of seeing above-normal or below-normal amounts of precipitation this spring. We’ll err on the side of caution + prepare the umbrellas.
What the rest of March has in store
In Chattanooga, temperatures usually range from the mid-40s to the upper-60s this month. With this change typically comes an average of ~4.5 inches of precipitation.

The Walnut Street Bridge upgrades have me reminiscing on my college days at UTC, when I walked the bridge with two of my friends and we signed our names on its railing. I suppose the new paint job covered up what may have been left of our fading signatures, but I like to believe that they live on underneath.
