News Notes

Traffic

The Wilcox Boulevard Tunnel will be closed today from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. for cleaning and inspection, and again Sunday from 7 a.m. to 2 p.m. Detour signs will be posted. (WDEF)

Stat

Chattanooga’s population may be increasing faster than we think. According to a UTC study, the metro area grew at more than double the national rate between 2020 and 2025. The data also suggests the metro area’s population, which includes six counties, could top 600,000 by late summer. (Local 3 News)

Festival

Southside Porchfest is less than two months away and some more “stages” are needed. If you live along this route and have a porch you’d like to volunteer on Saturday, June 6, fill out the form underneath the map. Everyone elsevote for your favorite poster and T-shirt design.

Drink

The Chattanooga Cocktail Festival returns Saturday, May 9 from 5 to 8 p.m. at the First Horizon Pavilion. Expect light, summery drinks, food trucks, live music, and a mixology showcase featuring creations from local bars. A $55 general admission ticket includes 12 sample-sized cocktails.

Community

After a year of planning, partnering, and planting, Soddy-Daisy is ready to show off its community-built pollinator garden featuring 700+ native plants. The public is invited to the dedication ceremony this Sunday, April 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the intersection of Dayton and Thrasher pikes.

Number

120. That’s how many animals the Humane Educational Society hopes will be adopted this April after a slower month in March. If you’ve been on the fence about adopting a pet, now’s a great time to meet the sweet babies who are waiting for their furever homes.

Outdoors

Reminder (if going outside isn’t reminder enough): Chattanooga ranked No. 26 on the Asthma and Allergy Foundation of America’s list of the toughest cities for allergy sufferers. As pollen seasons get longer and more intense, consider this your reminder to take an allergy pill before heading outdoors.

Edu

Did you know? If you’ve earned 12+ college credits, you could qualify as a UTC transfer student with support to help you finish your degree. With quick admission and no essay requirement, the process of transitioning to UTC is designed to be seamless and straightforward. Learn more + apply.*

Post of the Day

A split image shows a transformation of the historic Power House. Top: black and white, weathered facade. Bottom: vibrant red-brick restoration at Erlanger Park.
We’re halfway through Opening Week at Erlanger Park, and plenty of you have already stepped inside the new stadium.

But have you seen this before-and-after? The top photo shows the historic Powerhouse a year ago, weathered and worn. The bottom shows the fully restored building that now welcomes fans to the ballpark. Oh, the difference a year makes.
