Chattanoogans could see “a coating to an inch” of snow this week.

We’re dreaming of a white Christmas.

... And we just might see that dream come true (but, probably not).

Much of the US is currently awaiting arctic weather , with heavy snow and blizzards expected to hit some parts of the country + freezing temperatures projected for most.

What will this look like in Chattanooga? Here’s what to expect:

  • Temps will drop from an average high of ~50º to ~18º between Thursday, Dec. 22 and Friday, Dec. 23.
  • Friday morning, expect “wind chills in the -5º to -20º range.”
  • Colder temperatures (with some lows in the single digits) are projected to last through Christmas weekend.
  • As for snow? AccuWeather predicts that there’s a 48% chance of getting “a coating to an inch,” and a 43% chance of getting one to three inches starting Thursday night.

Compared to our Midwest friends, this may seem like nothing — but for Chattanoogans, these temps will be some of the coldest we’ve seen in a while for this time of year.

Stay safe + prepare:

  • Travel | Prep an emergency kit for travel (including blankets, water, and a first aid kit) + ensure your car is in good condition before leaving.
  • Home + pipes | Use these tips from TN American Water to prep your home.
  • Plants + pets | Bring plants inside Thursday night, and don’t keep pets outside for long periods.
