Ahhh, UTC’s fall semester starts on Monday. Every August, the U-haul trucks unload the last of the cheap futons and new UTC students begin settling into what they hope will be a successful semester + a healthy dose of fun in what has become a surprisingly great college city.

I remember my first semester at UTC back in 2001 (Yep. I’m 100 years old 😔). It was difficult to find my social footing, in part because there just wasn’t anything to do other than walk around and stay on campus. Basically, we played our guitars and ate too much pizza. But my how things have changed. In 2019, the city has so many great things to explore + activities to get involved with.

So, with all the new faces we thought it might be fun to help the newbies get accustomed to all that the city has to offer.

Here are our tips:

📲 Subscribe to our newsletter

Seriously, we’ll keep you informed with all the news you need to know + tell you where all the fun can be found with our event lists. And don’t be afraid to ask us questions. We’re just an email away and, of course, Instagram is our favorite.

🚗 Drive around the city

Go everywhere. Hop in a car with friends and get to know the area + get lost a bit. Take an afternoon and go to Old Plantation Barbecue and thank us later.

👟 Walk/hike around

NOOGA is one of the most walkable cities in the Southeast + and if you’re not outside you’re doing it wrong. We have a 13+ mile riverwalk that is convenient to downtown + you can explore regional hiking gems on the weekend. We love the Rainbow Lake + West Rim loop at Cloudland Canyon.

💰Take advantage of college deals

Being a college student means saving serious $$. But you’ve got to look for deals. Some of our favorites include half-price admission to Improv Chattanooga shows + the Tennessee Aquarium. Don’t be afraid to ask for the “student discount.”

🎟️ Free events

We are in the golden age of block parties/free events in NOOGA. There’s hardly a week that goes by without something free to attend, be it in the West Village, Nightfall concerts, or the Chattanooga Market. We keep track of them all in our monthly Plan Ahead events calendar. Take advantage of them.
