Don’t get us wrong, we love that in a matter of minutes, we can be hiking atop a mountain, swimming beside a waterfall, or biking along the river completely free of charge.

But thanks to our outdoors being so incredible, lists of free or cheap things to do in Chattanooga often only consist of these activities. So today, we’re diving into free local services, resources, and activities that you probably haven’t been taking advantage of (but should).

Chattanooga Library | The library offers more than just free books (take a minute to appreciate that, though, please) — it also offers free notary and fax services, meeting rooms, WiFi, a makerspace, and even tool loaning.

Urban League tax services | Consider this a sign to stop procrastinating on your taxes — for Chattanoogans who make $58,000 or less, the Urban League offers free tax preparation.

Stay Savvy workshops | The Company Lab recently started this new workshop series offering free business classes + discussions. The next one will be all about SEO on Feb. 28.

Art galleries | Chattanooga has no shortage of art galleries, and all of them offer a free look at beautiful local + regional artwork. Check out River Gallery, Area 61 Gallery, In-town Gallery, Stove Works, Reflections Gallery, and Hart Gallery.

CDM family nights | The Creative Discovery Museum often offers free family nights for parents to bring their kiddos in for a night of no-charge fun. The museum also offers free sensory nights.

Outdoor Chattanooga activities | Outdoor Chattanooga offers a variety of fun (and completely free) activities, like its weekly archery class, winter workshops, and bicycle riding classes.

Salsa nights | Every other Wednesday, Embargo 62 offers free salsa lessons at 6 p.m.

Ranger-led programs | During the fall and winter months, Chickamauga & Chattanooga National Military Park offers free ranger-led tours. Check out upcoming events via the park’s Facebook page.

Bar events | Don’t underestimate your local bars — most offer various free events throughout the week, like Barley’s open mic comedy nights + Wanderlinger’s open mic nights.

Hunter Museum | On the first Thursday of each month from 4-8 p.m., you can enjoy free admission to the museum’s permanent collection.
