City of Chattanooga launches Home Assistance Repair Program

The City of Chattanooga recently launched its Home Assistance Repair Program (HARP), an initiative to help residents in need make critical home repairs.
HARP will allocate $500,000 in federal funds to provide home repair assistance to ~90 low-to-moderate income families over the course of two years.
Quick facts
The city managed a similar program for more than 14 years before stopping due to the COVID-19 pandemic — during this time, over 750 residents received assistance.
The program has been renamed HARP + received a $425,000 increase in funding through the American Rescue Plan Act.

How to apply
HARP applications in English + Spanish are now open for those who are eligible. The city will accept applications on a first come, first serve basis through Wednesday, June 14.
Additionally, the city’s Neighborhood Services Division will host three HARP application pick-up events to help interested residents apply for the program.

The Chattanooga Airport will temporarily relocate its security checkpoint and reduce it to one screening lane beginning today, May 16-Friday, May 19, due to the airport’s ongoing expansion. Note: Passengers are advised to arrive ~2.5 hours before their flight to allow for the transition.

The YMCA of Metropolitan Chattanooga will temporarily close four of its pool locations on Sunday, May 21 for city-wide training sessions. The pools will reopen on Monday, May 22 for regular use.

The neighborhood of Ridgedale will host a community Block Party event on Saturday, May 20 — taking over all of Watkins Street (between the Mill + the former Parks and Recreation building). Folks can enjoy live music, food trucks, local vendors, games, and more.
The East Ridge Community Center will host a new “Game Time” program every Tuesday and Thursday from 11 a.m.-2:30 p.m. The events are free to the public + will offer a variety of board games, puzzles, and more to play.

RiseUp Co-Op will host its Adventure Trek event on Saturday, June 10 at the Chattanooga Green. This family-friendly scavenger hunt will take place along the free CARTA shuttle route to win prizes. Teams can register in groups of 2-4 or 5-8 people.
