The City of Cleveland will receive more than $27.4 million in federal funds from the Railroad Crossing Elimination Program for upcoming construction at 3rd Street Southeast + the Norfolk Railway line. There will be closures near East Main Street now through Wednesday, July 12 to allow for the demolition of the historic building at 100. E. Main St. (across from Bluegrass Grill). Notably, Mitchell Street between East Main Street + East 16th Street will be fully closed. Detours will be posted.

The Austin Hatcher Foundation will partner with Hixon Motor Sports to start a new STEM program, GreenPower USA Formula Goblin. The program is open for students ages 9-11, where they will create driveable electric cars to race in the upcoming Green Prix in October.
Community
The Unity Group of Chattanooga will host its wreath-laying ceremony at the US Colored Troops Monument in the Chattanooga National Cemetery on Saturday, June 10. This event is open to the public + will kick off the group’s Juneteenth commemoration series.
Outdoors
Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park will host a kayak tour through Ringgold, GA on Saturday, June 17. The two-hour long tour is free with prior reservations and will highlight the history of the area as you go through Ringgold Gap and South Chickamauga Creek. RSVP.

Take a drop-in class with Improv Chattanooga

Improv Chattanooga is partnering with Mountain Arts Community Center in Signal Mountain to offer several one-night summer drop-in classes in June + July. Each drop-in class will last two hours and delve into a different aspect of improv.
Improv Chattanooga’s Executive Director and Artistic Director Steven Disbrow said the classes are open to folks from every skill level + suggested the “Improv Crash Course: The Absolute Beginner’s Intro to Improv Comedy” class on Tuesday, June 20 for those who are new to the theater form.
Bonus: Want the kiddos to join in on the fun? The “Improv for Kids” class will be on Tuesday, July 11.

I’ve been loving the weather in Chattanooga lately — plenty of sunshine with occasional bouts of rain. The city’s parks and outdoors department recently shared this throwback picture from 2003 of Coolidge Park after some serious rain. I hope history doesn’t repeat itself in this case.
