• Siskin Children’s Institute will permanently close its early learning centers (1101 Carter St. + 225 Lookout St.) on Friday, Sept. 29. The decision came by “weighing the cost of operating the program against our impact, the quality of the program, and our ability to fulfill our core mission.”

• Hamilton County Commissioners have unanimously voted to change the name of the Silverdale Detention Center. The facility will now be known as the Hamilton County Jail and Detention Center after a request from Hamilton County Sheriff Austin Garrett. (NewsChannel 9)

• We’ve got a splashing update for you all. The Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors Department announced that the Coolidge Park Fountains have been fully repaired after weeks of maintenance issues. You can enjoy the fountains daily from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. through early fall.

• Applications are now open for Tennessee Valley Authority’s STEM Classroom Grant Program, which funds projects within K-12 classrooms in its service areas. Note: Applications should be submitted by the teacher performing the project. Apply by Friday, Sept. 15.

• River Gorge Excursions will host its fourth annual Paddle for PanCAN 5K on Saturday, Sept. 16. The race will have four divisions (adult male, adult female, tandem kayak, and child entry) + all proceeds will benefit the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network and its research efforts. Register online.

• Chattanooga Football Club recently appointed global sports executive Alton Byrd as its next chief executive officer. Alton, who is a former European professional basketball player, will succeed Jeremy Alumbaugh who left his position in January.

• The Mix 104.1 + MixTV.TV Great Cleveland Duck Race will return to the nearby Cleveland Greenway Park on Saturday, Aug. 12 from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The free, family-friendly event will feature live music, vendors, food trucks, and of course, the rubber duckies. Learn more + sign up.
