The Hamilton County Election Commission recently released its Notice of Election for our next local voting cycle to determine presidential preference + county primaries, which is slated for March 5.
We’re breaking down positions on the ballots and important dates for candidates and voters alike. Yes it’s early, but it’ll be here before you know it.
The ballot
Aside from presidential primaries and delegates, locally you can expect to see these offices on your ballot:
Criminal Court Judge | Division 2, unexpired term
County Commission | District 3, unexpired term
Assessor of Property
Hamilton County School Board | Districts 1, 2, 4, 7, 10 + 11
Petitions for county primary and independent candidates are available to be picked up now and must be filed with the Tennessee Coordinator of Elections.
Qualifying deadline | Thursday, Dec. 14 at 12 p.m.
Withdrawal deadline | Thursday, Dec. 21 at 12 p.m.
Voting
Voter registration deadline | Monday, Feb. 5 — check out our tips on how to register or update your registration
Early voting | Wednesday, Feb. 14 through Tuesday, Feb. 27
Absentee voting | Requests for a mail-in ballot start Wednesday, Dec. 6 through Tuesday, Feb. 27
For those with disabilities or elderly voters, you may vote during the early voting period or on election day at the Election Commission office, located at 700 River Terminal Rd. If it is your first time voting within this category, you must provide a letter of intent to vote on Election Day + send it to the office prior to Saturday, Feb. 24.

Three Hamilton County leaders have been selected for the National Association of Counties’ C4CS initiative. Tucker McClendon, Alexa LeBoeuf, and Bo Drake will serve in roles that create an action plan “to create lasting impacts on the local education and employment landscape.”
Health
Beginning Wednesday, Nov. 1, all of the Hamilton County Health Department’s dental clinics (excluding the Homeless Health Care Dental Clinic) will be temporarily closed. Reopening dates have not been announced, but you are encouraged to check the department’s Instagram page for updates.
Opening
The grand opening of Apotheca Hemp Dispensary’s second Chattanooga location will be today, Oct. 26 at 12 p.m. Folks can come by the location at 1906 Gunbarrel Rd. to shop items at a discounted price today only.
Family
The City of Chattanooga will host its Fall Family Fest Block Party on Saturday, Oct. 28 from 5 to 9 p.m. at 5704 Marlin Rd. Come out for a trunk-or-treat, food trucks, giveaways, and more fall fun for all ages. (Chattanoogan.com)
Concert
The Chattanooga Boys Choir will host a family-fun Halloween performance on Monday, Oct. 30 at the Chris L. Ramsey Sr. Community Center. After the performance of Halloween-themed songs, attendees can participate in a candy giveaway, games, and other activities.
Noogan
Text Request’s Vice President of Marketing Kenneth Burke was named the Executive of the Year by Business Intelligence Group. The award is granted to “agencies and corporate departments alike who accelerate their brand’s growth through exposing and promoting great business stories.”
Arts
In-Town Gallery’s 49th All Member Holiday Show will go on display beginning Wednesday, Nov. 8. Folks will be able to see the work from AVA members + shop local ornaments and gift items. The show will be on display through Friday, Nov. 30, and is free to attend.
Plan Ahead
SORBA Chattanooga will celebrate 20 years of operation with an Anniversary Party + Fundraiser on Friday, Dec. 8. The community is invited to join the festivities and learn more about SORBA’s mission. Get your tickets at an early bird price until Wednesday, Nov. 1.
Festival
Riverfront Nights has announced its free summer music series will expand in 2024. Next year, the series will span over the course of 14 Saturday evenings from Memorial Day weekend to Labor Day weekend.
