The Chattanooga City Council recently approved the appointment of Javaid Majid as the next chief financial officer for the Kelly Administration. Majid, who is from Salt Lake City, UT, will begin his role on Friday, Feb. 23. (Chattanoogan.com)

Any gardeners who want to sell their fresh goods? The Kitchen Incubator of Chattanooga will host a free “Farmers Market 101: Food Permit Unit Q&A” session on Monday, Feb. 12. From 2 p.m. to 5 p.m., attendees will learn the ins and outs of selling their produce locally. RSVP.

The City of Chattanooga is rising through the ranks on Milken Institute’s “Best-Performing Cities” list, coming in at No. 46 in the Tier 2 category. The ranking places the city third among the state’s largest cities + is an improvement from last year’s placement at No. 72.
Family
Hutton & Smith Brewing Co. has made some minor changes. Patrons can now bring their kiddos while they enjoy brews in the taproom. Note: For those that enjoy the adult-only atmosphere, don’t fret — bar seating and the brewing area will be reserved for those 21+.
Older Adults
The next CIVIQ roundtable series event will host speaker Gil Penalosa on Thursday, Feb. 22 at the Downtown Library. Folks will hear about what it means to actively age within a city + how the community can support prime years. RSVP by Friday, Feb. 16.

This year, the Tivoli Theatre Foundation will launch The Jewel Awards, a pilot program designed to benefit regional high school theater programs.
With a goal to celebrate and advocate the theater in schools, the program will award excellent work in categories like direction, choreography, design + best actor and actress.

Note: Girls Preparatory School/McCallie School + Silverdale Baptist Academy will join as “Community Level” participants.
So how will the awards work? Each category’s top three highest-scoring schools will be nominated + will be announced on Friday, April 26.
Bonus: An area teacher will also be presented with the Excellence in Theatre Education Award — which includes a $1,000 gift for the school’s theater program.
