Tivoli Theatre Foundation to launch high school musical theater awards program

Introducing The Jewel Awards, a high school musical theater awards program that will aim to support theater in regional schools.

“We hope that this program will not only celebrate but advocate for theatre in our schools,” said the Tivoli Theatre Foundation’s Director of Education, Ellie Austin.

Calling local area high school thespians. This year, the Tivoli Theatre Foundation will launch The Jewel Awards, a pilot program designed to benefit regional high school theater programs.

With a goal to celebrate and advocate the theater in schools, the program will award excellent work in categories like direction, choreography, design + best actor and actress.

Meet the seven participating schools:

  • Boyd-Buchanan School
  • Chattanooga Christian School
  • Chattanooga High Center for Creative Arts
  • Christian Heritage School
  • East Hamilton High School
  • Grace Academy
  • Signal Mountain High School

Note: Girls Preparatory School/McCallie School + Silverdale Baptist Academy will join as “Community Level” participants.

So how will the awards work? Each category’s top three highest-scoring schools will be nominated + will be announced on Friday, April 26.

Bonus: An area teacher will also be presented with the Excellence in Theatre Education Award — which includes a $1,000 gift for the school’s theater program.
