We know the question on your mind, Chattanooga — when is it really going to get hot? Thanks to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration’s Climate Prediction Center, we know what temperatures and precipitation trends to expect in our city for June, July, and August.
While exact weather conditions typically can’t be predicted more than a week in advance, here’s a seasonal outlook to help you prepare for what summer will bring.
Reminder: The first day of summer is on Thursday, June 20.
🌡️ Temperature
No surprises here — get ready for the heat. This summer, Chattanooga has a 40-50% chance of temperatures being higher than normal.
🌨️ Precipitation
Keep your umbrella nearby and expect slightly more precipitation.Chattanooga also has a 40-50% chance of seeing higher than average rainfall amounts this summer.
June highlights the transitions into Chattanooga’s summer with warmer weather and sunny conditions. Temperatures tend to increase to 85.6° — compared to May’s 78.1°. Bonus: The sun is out for an average of 14.5 hours this month, meaning you’ll have more time during the day to enjoy outdoor activities.
July
Historically, July sees the highest temperatures, averaging around 88° — marking the peak of summer in Chattanooga. You can also expect the average relative humidity rate to increase to 75% on most days during this month.
July’s heat index is computed to be 102.2°, so you’ll want to make sure you stay hydrated and take precautions while outdoors.
August
Temperatures in August tend to decrease slightly to an average of 87.3°, so you can still expect plenty of warm and sunny days ahead.
Rainfall during August will typically increase to reach an average of 3.31 inches, for a slight break from the summer heat.

Mixed-use buildings could be built on over 100 acres of the old Wheland Foundry site, around the upcoming new stadium, in a proposed development plan. Notably, the project agreement outlines that the site owner will revitalize the surrounding 690,000-sqft area within five years of the stadium’s completion. (Chattanooga Times Free Press)

We’ve got some voting dates to remember. The upcoming State and Federal Primary + State and County General Elections are slated for Thursday, Aug. 1. Early voting will run from Friday, July 12 through Saturday, July 27. Note: The deadline to request an absentee ballot is Thursday, July 25.
Community
In case you missed it, project submissions are open for United Way of Greater Chattanooga’s 2024 Day of Caring. Volunteers will get connected to the organizations with approved projects on Friday, Sept. 20. Learn how to submit your proposal by Monday, June 17.
Outdoors
The Chattanooga Parks and Outdoors Department recently announced changes to Greenway Farm. Folks can expect new ADA walkways (from the bathrooms to the dog park + around the Outdoor Chattanooga Barn) and a splash zone added to the dog park by mid-June. Note: The dog park will experience closures for the construction. (Big106.9)
Cause
Chattanooga Room in the Inn is currently seeking volunteers to help run its Child Enrichment Program on Monday nights, providing engaging educational opportunities for the kiddos. Bonus: Sign up for an informational session on Wednesday, July 17.
Holiday
The City of East Ridge will host its annual Father’s Day Field Day on Saturday, June 15 from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. The family-friendly celebration will feature yard games, a Topgolf experience, and all of the classic dad foods (think: hot dogs, chips, and drinks), while supplies last. (The Pulse)

🪨 Meet Sasha DiGiulian

Folks within the rock climbing community may be familiar with professional rock climber Sasha DiGiulian. She has been climbing since she was six years old, was the first North American woman to climb the grade 9a, 5.14d (recognized as one of the hardest climbs achieved by a female) + has taken home several world titles.
DiGiulian is the subject of the upcoming HBO Sports documentary from Red Bull Media House, “Here to Climb,” which is set to debut on Tuesday, June 18. The film follows her journey to “the biggest walls on the planet with a series of bold first female ascents.”
