From one yard saler to another

Editor Haley checking in. As a seasoned shopper of the 127 Yard Sale, here are some highlights of my experiences.
  • Mostly cash sales — in the event a stop doesn’t have an ATM as noted, check out the best ATMs in the Signal Mountain area (I recommend Thomas Service station on Taft Highway).
  • Bargains are on the table — last year, I scored a $1 vintage painting and shirts, but I’m still wishing I haggled for an antique radio that worked.
  • Sustenance is key for taking on the weekend — search through our City Guides for all the ins + outs of the Greater Chattanooga area for locals and visitors alike.
  • Plan your travels with this route map covering the full trail.
Just stopping in the Scenic City? No worries, check out our abbreviated version of the map.

From 2009 to 2024, let us tell you how Lupton Mills Meadow, Chattanooga’s newest park, came to be.

Technically, the story of the site really begins in the 1920s when Dixie Spinning Mill was established + became a staple industry for nearby Lupton City. In 2009, the plant closed its doors for demolition and the course of a decade-long environmental remediation began to address factors like asbestos.

Chattanooga acquired the land in 2019 to continue improvements, allowing the Parks and Outdoors Department to implement a landscape healing process — aka planting native species that:
  • Stabilizes the soil
  • Reduces water runoff
  • Provides wildlife habitat
  • Improves biodiversity (meaning new species will colonize the land as it grows)
The 12-acre Lupton Mills Meadow park is now open daily (from sunrise to sunset) at 2 Dixie Cir. — take a stroll on the 0.3-mile walking path surrounded by native plants.

I’m sure you all were on the edge waiting to know what the world record is for cliff jumping in our recent quiz. If you were among the 42% who answered D. 58.8 meters (193 ft), you would be correct — in 2015, Swiss cliff jumper Laso Schaller set the record.

Looking to keep the thrill going? Make sure to stop by the Chattanooga River Games this weekend.
