In a partnership between the City and Chattanooga Land Bank Authority — an agency designed to acquire, manage, and repurpose vacant and underutilized properties — seven city-owned plots of land will be donated to build more affordable units for homeowners + renters.

Before we dive deeper, let’s develop the margins of what folks would need to make annually to qualify for these units.
  • Renters | Earning up to 80% of the area median income ($56,000 for a two-person household)
  • First-time homebuyers | Earning up to 100% of the area median income (around $70,000)
For rentals, the affordability period will be enforced for at least 10 years + homes must be made affordable for at least 15 years (and capped at $200,000).

While the lots are outside of the downtown area, they are all less than a 15-minute commute.

It’s time to prepare your calendars (and stomachs) for the return of Gratefull — a citywide community luncheon — on Thursday, Nov. 21.

From 11:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., you can gather in the 200 block of East MLK Boulevard to fill up plates with all your favorite Thanksgiving classics and eat alongside other residents during this free event.

This potluck-style initiative began in 2014 by local nonprofit Causeway, with a mission to bring folks from all backgrounds to share a meal at a table where there is a seat for everyone. The concept has since been adopted by other cities in Tennessee, Alabama, and Georgia.

Bonus: Attendees are encouraged to bring donation items for the Maclellan Shelter for Families like nonperishable food, coffee supplies, disposable tableware + hygienic items.

Want even more ways to be in the giving spirit? Volunteer for Gratefull + if you’re a restaurant owner or caterer, you can donate food — inquire via email.
