Raise your hand if you remember Chattanooga’s great snowfall of 1993.
In case you missed it (or were just a wee little snowflake at the time), here’s what happened: On March 12, 1993, Chattanoogans prepared to experience the “Storm of the Century” that ended up closing down half the city, bringing in 20 inches of fresh powder in total.
While the day did bring its fair share of grief, with thousands of homes in the region losing electricity + many motorists being trapped in their cars, it’s certain that residents also came together during the snowfall.

Did your predictions come true?
There’s still time for some of these predictions to happen — Dolly, we’re waiting. | Graphic by 6AM City
Earlier this year, we asked our readers what their predictions were for 2024 — now that we’re at the end of the year, we’re looking back to see how they panned out.
Prediction: “Dolly Parton concert announced” Outcome: The Queen of Tennessee hasn’t performed in Chattanooga... yet. We saw Dolly launch Songbirds’ fall fundraising drive, so we would love to see a show announced at the venue.
Prediction: “City Cafe reopens on Broad Street in May” Outcome: We’re choosing to check this off our Bingo card since we saw the reopening of this 24/7 cafe in 2024, just a little later in the year than predicted.
Prediction: “Featured on a Best Food list” Outcome: Foodies were right in guessing some of Chattanooga’s restaurants would receive recognition this year — notably, Forbes recognizing the Scenic City as an under-the-radar culinary gem.

I had such a blast judging this year’s Lodge Cast Iron Cook Off at the Chattanooga Market. I’m still thinking of the dish Sujata Singh cooked up that won her first place in the competition. Fingers crossed it makes the menu one day at Spice Trail.
