Did you know? Martin Luther King Jr. Day (Monday, Jan. 20) is the only federal holiday designated as a National Day of Service to encourage all Americans to volunteer.
For 30 years, the MLK Day of Service has grown as more people embrace the idea that citizenship involves taking an active role in improving the communities where we live, work, and play.
Work has begun on the milling + paving process for Wilcox Boulevard (between Shallowford and Greenwood Roads). Construction will occur on weekdays between 8 a.m. and 3:30 p.m., with partial lane closures. See the project timeline. (Local 3)

The Chattanooga Fire Department + the Mayor’s Council on Livability & Aging are accepting donations for the first annual Senior Snuggles Blanket Drive. New, unwrapped blankets can be dropped off at any Chattanooga Fire Station location now through Tuesday, Jan. 14.

The Boys & Girls Clubs of Chattanooga recently received a $45,000 grant from the Panda Express Panda Care Foundation. The funds will be used to create a new Center of Hope by remodeling a library + computer lab at its Highland Park Clubhouse, accommodating 45 students. (Local 3)

What’s impacting women in Tennessee?

Registration is now open for the Statewide Women’s Policy Conference, where women across Tennessee come together to address issues impacting health, safety, economic mobility + leadership opportunities for women and girls.
This year’s conference will be held on Thursday, Feb. 6 and Friday, Feb. 7 at The Westin hotel + will honor late Councilwoman Dr. Carol Berz. Berz was a chairwoman for the conference and a founding member of the Mayor’s Council for Women.
Attendees can expect keynote speakers, interactive workshops, and panel discussions where you can connect with fellow leaders in the state.
Tickets start at $75. Additionally, if you’d like to honor a woman or women for their achievements, you can choose an add-on option to highlight them in the conference program book.
