If you’re like us, the “somewhere on Google Maps” trend has taken over your social media feeds.
Here’s how it works: Folks search their home address to find special memories captured by Google over time, like their grandfather mowing the lawn, childhood pets in the driveway, or even themselves playing outside.
It got us thinking — what moments in Chattanooga have been memorialized by Google Maps? Here’s what we found.

Hamilton County Mayor Weston Wamp announced in a recent statement that the current draft of the Plan Hamilton project will be deferred until more community input and support is given. Next steps are to start a committee to help address concerns + build a consensus.
Civic
Requests for absentee ballots are available for the City of Chattanooga Municipal Election on Tuesday, March 4. Eligible residents can apply online by Saturday, Feb. 22 to mail in a vote for mayor + City Council officials. See more important dates.
Cause
The Pop-Up Project is hosting a Winter Coat Drive now through the end of February. You can drop off new or gently used coats (for kiddos + adults) at Studio34 on Brainerd Road. The items collected will be taken to the Chattanooga Rescue Mission.
Kids
The Chattanooga Public Library has launched the Start Smart Initiative to extend access to library tools for those ages 0-17. Notably, this programming allows for fine-free youth materials + no-cost cards for ages 0-5. Now through Friday, Feb. 28, return any overdue youth material to have the fines waived.
Community
You think you got the skillet takes? Ice on the Landing will host cast iron skillet curling competitions on Thursday, Jan. 30, Saturday, Feb. 1 + Sunday, Feb. 2. During the events, the rink will be closed to free skating, but you can hit the ice before or after the matches.
Awards
Two local groups were recently recognized with the Smart Meetings 2024 Platinum Choice Award. Chattanooga Tourism Co. made marks in the Convention and Visitors Bureau category + The Edwin Hotel, Autograph Collection, was honored in the hospitality category.

Remember when Tyler Perry Studios was in town? “The Six Triple Eight,” a war drama based on World War II’s only all-Black, all-woman unit + starring A-listers like Kerry Washington, is now streaming on Netflix. Keep an eye out for an iconic scene in our very own Chattanooga Choo Choo.
