Fresh on the market: generational living. | Photo provided by Real Estate Partners Chattanooga LLC
For the first time in over 100 years, the all-brick estate that once housed the Paalzow Farr family is on the market.
While you might have driven by the home on Browntown Road, we’re taking you on a tour through its walls + the history they hold.
The Paalzows
The story of the estate begins with two brothers, both named Hunt, who built the home in 1920 — but the land itself has more history to offer. Before the property was owned by the Hunts, a farmhouse + vineyard run by a German immigrant resided on the site.
In 1930, John Paalzow and his wife bought the estate, quickly turning it into a home for generations to come. They worked to brick the exterior, add the portico and columns, and expand to have an attached kitchen and second-floor bedroom.
John Paalzow also purchased + ran the James Building downtown — the building stayed within the family until 1979.
Fast forward to 1987, John Paalzow Farr (grandson to John Paalzow) and his wife Delores took ownership of the home. Farr grew up in Red Bank and went on to serve 30 years in the US Army, retiring as a Lieutenant Colonel.
Farr died in 2019, and was honored by a resolution for his efforts in the Chattanooga community — from being an educator and starting Red Bank High School’s wrestling program to being inducted into several athletic Hall of Fames.
Imagine the morning walks throughout this property or hosting your friends in the garden.

A cotton wrap dress that boasts an elegant halter neckline and chic wrapping at the waist. We love it for summer grill outs, casual afternoons by the beach, and warm weather weekend hangouts.
I love diving into the history within the walls of a beautiful home — it got me thinking back to last year when the Felker House went on the market. Have a similar house in mind you want to learn more about? Pitch it to me.
