Meet the mother-daughter duo graduating college together

Most parents dream of their kids’ graduation, but what about graduating alongside them?
For mom Nicole + daughter Nalani, ChattState made that reality with free tuition through TN Reconnect and resources for students of all ages.
Nicole started at ChattState in 2005, but left and had Nalani and a son. She then bounced around the Southeast, overcoming a series of challenges that eventually led her back to Tennessee.
Nicole returned with a goal: provide her children with a quality education.
When Nalani scored a 26 on her first ACT, that goal led Nicole to enroll her in Collegiate High at ChattState, where dual enrollment allows students to graduate with a high school diploma and college degree simultaneously.
Around the same time, Nicole discovered TN Reconnect and re-enrolled herself at ChattState.
Two years later, both women are college graduates. Nalani is headed to an aerospace engineering program, and Nicole aims to become a licensed counselor.
“You’re here for a reason,” Nicole said. “Figure out what that reason is, and go towards it.”
