A gray gallery wall displays a variety of artworks, including paintings, prints, and mixed media pieces in different styles and sizes. The left panel features six works, including a portrait of a woman with a flower crown and a forest scene. The larger main wall showcases an eclectic mix of abstract, realistic, and surreal pieces, such as a fish skeleton print, a circular bird painting, and floral or leaf-themed artworks.

Summer is a busy season at the Chattanooga Metropolitan Airport, and there’s a new arrival that has caught our attention. The “Flora & Fauna” art show is now in bloom.

The gallery can be seen in the CHA ART SPACE, which is housed in the ticketing area of the airport. It showcases nearly 30 nature-inspired pieces curated by local artist Carrie Pendergrass.

All works are created by local + regional artists, and the exhibit is free to visit before it departs at the end of September. The pieces can be purchased, and proceeds will support the creators + CHA ART SPACE’s ongoing efforts.

Pro tip: CHA recommends arriving two hours early for your flight — we suggest adding a few minutes to check out “Flora & Fauna.”

News Notes

Coming Soon

A new coffee shop is brewing in Ooltewah. A drive-through-only 7-Brew Coffee Shop will be constructed at the former site of Kleen-A-Matic Dry Cleaners on Lee Highway. An opening timeline hasn’t been announced, but the new store is expected to be ~500 sqft. (Chattanoogan)

Travel

Some of your favorite snacks might not make it through airport security. TSA recently clarified that spreadable and spillable foods like peanut butter, hummus, and yogurt are subject to “liquid rules.” Keep that in mind before heading to the Chattanooga Airport for your next trip. (USA TODAY)

Eat

McDonald’s is spicing up its menu and bringing the summer heat with new Spicy McMuffin breakfast sandwiches — made with all the classic ingredients + spicy pepper sauce. Can’t make it before the 10:30 a.m. cutoff? Try these brunch spots around Chattanooga instead.

Watch

It seems Tennesseans love tuning in to “Property Brothers.” That’s the state’s most popular HGTV show, according to a recent study. If you’re ready to turn off the TV and do some house hunting of your own, you might want to brush up on Chattanooga’s cost of living.

History

It might feel like Y2K was just yesterday, but we’re officially closer to 2050 than we are to 2000. While we have no idea what’s in store for the next 25 years, we are looking forward to these local events in the next couple of weeks. (Buzzfeed)

The Word

“Fridge cigarette.” A snack or drink — most often a Diet Coke — used as an excuse for a short break, akin to a smoke break. If you’re going to join the trend, give it a Chattanooga spin and stock up on locally made snacks.

Mansion Monday

This mountain retreat in Soddy-Daisy offers stunning views of the Tennessee River Gorge + Chattanooga area as far as the eye can see. Inside, you’ll be able to relax with four bedrooms, four bathrooms, a huge kitchen and living space, and a media room.

The Wrap

Apple Music recently celebrated its 10th birthday by releasing the list of it’s 100 most-streamed songs (so far). There wasn’t a lot of Chattanooga representation on the list, but one artist did make the cut. Usher, who grew up in the area and started his singing career at local churches, appeared at No. 160 with his hit song “Yeah!” I’d certainly call that track a modern classic.
